Café/Chatterer Volunteer

Memory Lane Cafe has been running for the past three years. The focus of the café is to tackle isolation and facilitate the building up of friendships in the older population, especially in those who have become isolated due to personal circumstances.

The main job is to help with setting up, serving and clearing up at the end, but everyone is encouraged to get to know the people who come along to the café and to engage in conversation with people.

It is very important to watch for anyone who might seem to be sitting on their own or not engaging in conversation as we do not want anyone to feel lonely. The aim of the café is not to run a café but to have a place where people feel welcomed and valued, while enjoying company with a hot drink and some toast or a tea cake.
